The hearding dogs and huntaways that help keep many New Zealand farms operating are without question the most reliable and inexpensive farm workers of all. Yet, not much is known about them or their requirements. That is about to change.

A humble shipping container on the edge of a Mallee paddock provides work space and storage for triticale champion, Dr Kath Cooper. The former university researcher turned Mallee farmer continues to devote her energies to the under-rated wheat and rye hybrid, triticale, more than 10 years after her public role ended.
